I'm thrilled to say that a soda tax (technically the Sugar-sweetened Beverage General Tax) has made it onto the ballot. We join our fellow Bay cities Oakland and San Francisco in this effort. Recently, both the Bay Area News Group and the San Francisco Chronicle have endorsed our efforts. Many many public health organizations and elected officials endorse this effort as well.

I'm also pleased to say that joining our fellow cities was an idea that I first proposed to the City Council many months ago. Inspired by Berkeley's great success, I saw the opportunity to join in this new frontier in the fight for our health.
